|Weeks of Resurrection: The Painting|
Mar Toma Sliba is the perfect symbol of Jesus’ Resurrection. Empty Cross, just as empty tomb, proclaims Jesus’ Resurrection; the blooming bud-like ends its new life and the descending dove the Holy Spirit who effected the Resurrection. The lotus at the bottom points to the faith in Jesus, established in India. The three steps symbolize Gagulta and thus Jesus’ death. Thus Mar Toma Sliba is a unique symbol of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus and a vivid historical data of Christianity in India. The lighted candles show the faithful transmitting Jesus’ light to the world. The flowering plants depict the Spring of Resurrection. The believer born in Baptism grows to maturity through participation in the Holy Qurbana, which in fact transfigures him/her to Jesus Himself.
