Importance of this day Patron of the Church
On this day the Church exhorts us to remember the Patron of the Church. In Syriac the words Had Parsopa are used to express the sense of the word Patron. The literal meaning of the Syriac expression is One Person. Who is this person? Evidently it is the person who gave origin to the Individual or Particular Church by his evangelization. That is Mar Toma Shliha, St Thomas, the Apostle, for the ancient Christian community in India.

Prayer of the dayJesus the Lord of Martyrs and Saints, we honour with great joy Mar Toma Sliha, who pleased You in his life and whom You have given us as father and patron, revealing Your love in his life. He, by his martyrdom in our motherland, bore witness to You and entered into Your Kingdom. He followed the way You showed, took Your Gospel as the rule of life, Your teachings and life as the living experience to be shared, Your Cross as the pattern for life and Your love as the goal of living. Through his intercession and patronage, may we follow in his footsteps and attain the goal set before us, so that we glorify You together with him at all times.
