Importance of this day The Feast of Saint Polycarp
On this day, the Church remembers St. Polycarp, one of the Apostolic Fathers of the Church. He was the Bishop of Smyrna (modern Izmir in Turkey). Although the exact date of his life time is not known, the general agreement among historians is that he was born about 69 A.D. and was martyred in 155. He is called an Apostolic Father because he had contact with at least one of the Apostles of Jesus.

Prayer of the dayJesus the most praiseworthy One, with the Centurion we cry out: O Lord, we are not worthy to have You enter under the roof of our sinful humanity. But as You entered the womb of Mary, so You entered the River Jordan. As You entered the tomb, so You entered the heavenly bridal chamber. By Your entrances You have healed and sanctified our nature. Grant health to the sick and guide those who wander astray.
