During the weeks of Great Fast, the faithful reflect on and meditate over the public life of Jesus and especially on its culmination in his passion, death and burial. It is a God-given time for turning to one's own life more deeply and to become convinced of the abundant blessings of the loving God in the creation, the providential caring, the human fall, the helplessness of man to save himself, the promise of salvation, the redemption through His Son Jesus, the invaluable Gift of the Holy Spirit and the inheritance of the heavenly Kingdom. Prayer of the dayIsho the Light of the world, when You ascended the Cross for liberating us, all the creatures were trembled and terrified; the sun, beautiful with its rays, darkened its light and hid its splendour; the moon changed its colour in order to scold the wicked people, who daringly attacked and killed its Lord; the sanctuary veil was torn asunder. Your sound resuscitated the dead, proclaiming You the Vivifier of our mortality. And in heaven the celestial beings rejoiced as Adam is invited to heaven. O Lord, You defeated death and united heaven and earth by Your immolation on Gagulta. Thus the First Fruit from our humanity, the body that the only Begotten of the Father united to His Person made His peace reign among us from century to century. Let us all together adore Him and extol His Name forever and ever.
