Importance of this day Dukrana: Memorial Day of our Father Mar Toma Sliha
This is the ecclesial day (Jatheeyadinam) for all Mar Toma Nasranis. We commemorate and celebrate the heavenly birth of Mar Toma Sliha, our father in faith, who shed his blood and died at Periyamalai, Chennai on this day. It is our conviction and firm tradition that Mar Toma Sliha brought us the Gospel in the first century. Christianity in India is not an import or product of colonialism. In humble repentance we Indians and the members of the church that he planted in India remember that we are divided in different ways and are beset with many problems within and without. And so we earnestly pray for unity and the spirit of evangelization going beyond human frontiers as our Saint did by undertaking such a risky travel to such a known yet distant land like India in those days.

Prayer of the dayJesus our Lord and our God, be with us as we celebrate our father, Mar Toma Sliha, Your chosen one, who proclaimed Your truth to our forefathers and witnessed to Your love in this our country of India. As he witnessed to You by His death, pierced by a lance, as were You, may we witness to You by our lives, pierced by the lance of Your love. By his prayers, may we enter the bliss which You have prepared for all of us together with him.
