The maturity and fruitfulness of the Church are specially meditated on during the weeks of summer (Qaita). The Syriac word Qaita means "summer". Summer is the time when grains and fruits mature and ripen. Thus it is a time of plentiful harvest for the Church. The fruits of the Church are those of holiness and martyrdom. Continue reading...

Importance of this day Mar Addai and Mar Mari, the Teachers of the East
The Holy Qurbana of Mar Thoma Nasranis is credited to Mar Addai and Mar Mari. It is one of the oldest Eucharistic prayers in the Christianity, dating back to third century.

Mar Addai is one of the 72 original disciples sent out to spread the faith. Addai was sent by Saint Thomas the Apostle to heal King Abgar the Black, a correspondent of Jesus' who had fallen ill. Addai stayed to evangelize, and converted Abgar and his people including Saint Aggai and Saint Mari. Known as one of the great apostles to Syria and Persia. taken from: http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=1123

Saint Mari was converted by Saint Addai. He is said to have had Mar Aggai as his spiritual director. He is also believed to have done missionary work around Nineveh, Nisibis, and along the Euphrates, and is said to have been one of the great apostles to Syria and Persia. taken from: http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01136d.htm

Prayer of the dayJesus who enables us to stand in His Presence with cheerful face and pure hearts, we honour with great joy the Teachers of the East, Mar Addai and Mar Mari, who pleased You in their life, work and death. They are worthy to be numbered among the ranks of apostles and teachers as they carried faith in You beyond the limits of Roman Empire. They followed Your way, took Your Gospel as a rule of life, Your teachings as their beliefs, Your Church as their standard and goal. Through their intercession, may we follow in their zealous footsteps, working for the good of Your Churches, and remaining faithful to the tradition which they passed on to us; we sing glory to You.

Mystery of the Church - Church as the continuation of Jesus grows and spreads to all quarters of the world, produces flowers and fruits of martyrdom and holiness-Church shines as the Symbol of the heavenly Kingdom.

Age of Fruitfulness

Church becomes attractive through her holiness and martyrdom - not through this-worldly achievements - "Blessed are the poor in spirit...Blessed are the merciful...Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven" (Mt 5:3-12)
